Living Room & Guest Bedroom
Mayo Woodlands Cottage
After completing the first phase of the Mayo Woodlands Cottage, I was invited back to work on the living room and a guest bedroom. The main challenge for the living room was to create a functional furniture arrangement that could accommodate multiple activities like TV watching, reading, or entertaining, all while feeling like a seamless and complementary part of the original design. The home's original architectural design, with its intricate woodwork and stonework, has always been a key inspiration for the designs I've created for the Mayo Woodlands Cottage.
To address the clients' lifestyle needs and complement the adjacent spaces, I started with their existing custom wool rug, which is rich in both color and texture. Drawing inspiration from the beautiful views of the wooded landscape, I selected durable yet luxurious fabrics to capture the essence of my clients' lifestyle, the architecture, and the natural beauty surrounding the property. As you'll see in the photos, it's a blend of old and new. The rug serves as the foundation of the room, with the furnishings, fabrics, artwork, and accessories all combining to create a sense of luxurious depth that makes everyone feel completely at ease.
Living Room
In the living room, there's an antique table that belonged to one of the homeowners' grandfathers. Paying close attention to its deep, sentimental value and beautiful design, I complimented it by adding two additional custom-made end tables. These were crafted with original bench-made style workmanship by an artisan in England, and they truly feel as though they're from a time long past. We finished the room off by "framing" the beautiful woodland view with custom floor-to-ceiling drapery. To accomplish this, I worked with a hand-forged drapery rod company, creating a customized bracket to hold the width and length of the drapery without damaging the living room's beautiful millwork.
Guest Bedroom
For the guest bedroom, the challenge was to transform the space from a collection of uncurated furniture, bedding, and artwork into something cohesive, warm, restful, and as luxurious as the adjacent areas. Drawing inspiration from the antique chest of drawers, the existing carpeting, and the beautiful millwork, I began by selecting custom bedding in a color and pattern that my client was drawn to. The bedding fabric, paint color scheme, and a blend of old with new accessories—like lamps and window treatments—all combine to create a deeply personal space where guests can truly retreat and relax.
