Project Background

In 2024, visionary interior designer Sarah Conti was one of 30 ASID designers chosen to participate in the comprehensive restoration of the iconic Alfred P. Pillsbury Castle, a historic landmark in Minneapolis.

To achieve their vision of honoring the mansion’s rich history while modernizing the function and design of the residence, homeowners and entrepreneurs Matthew Trettel and Ryan Hanson collaborated with the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) Minnesota chapter and the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) Minnesota.

Through her exquisite passion for livable luxury, Sarah captured the client’s vision of a functional, modern design and the glamour and sophistication of a luxury hotel.

Problem Solved: The Powder Room

As a team, we worked with a trusted manufacturer to replicate the exact size of the castle’s existing original terra cotta floor tile to modernize the room’s color scheme.

Consistent with my signature blend of luxury and livability, we improved the functionality of the powder room by reversing the swing of the door and moving the sink to open the space.

The team and I updated the vanity and sink, and repositioned the toilet from the corner of the room, ensuring that it met code requirements.

Problem Solved: Nook & Stairway

The wallpaper in the stairway that connects the main floor to the Speakeasy and Billiards Room features hints of copper that tie in beautifully with the adjacent spaces. Our team chose a design with mirrors to enhance the light and bring a touch of drama to the staircase.
